How to Tell Your Ministry Story in a Compelling Way

People don’t give to information. They give to inspiration.

They don’t give to budgets. They give to vision.

For church planters, that means fundraising should never feel like pressure or salesmanship. It is an invitation for others to become partners in what God is doing.

A compelling ministry story has five essential parts:

  1. THE PROBLEM: What is broken? Help people understand the spiritual, relational, or community need that makes this mission urgent.

  2. THE PERSON: Why is God calling you? Share how God captured your heart and why you cannot ignore this burden.

  3. THE PICTURE: What does God want to do? Paint a faith-filled vision of transformed lives, restored families, growing disciples, and a community changed by Jesus.

  4. THE PLAN: How will you get there? Show that the vision is supported by clear, realistic next steps. Inspiration creates interest, but a trustworthy plan builds confidence.

  5. THE PARTNERS: Who are you inviting to join? Be bold, clear, and specific. Fundraising is not about twisting arms. It is about opening doors for people to participate in God’s mission through prayer, giving, serving, and sharing.

Remember, you are not the hero of the story. Jesus is. You are the narrator, the community is the mission field, and the donor is a potential partner. Tell your story clearly, confidently, consistently, and with joy.
